STEP Method (Temporary Cofferdams for Existing Structures in Water)

STEP (Steel Panel Temporary Enclosure by Press-in style) Method is to create a preliminary dry working space in water with pressed-into-ground steel panels consisting of steel segments assembled around the existing piers. The steel panels are pressed into the grounds in water by jacks to the required depth. Then, in sequence, excavation of soils between the steel panels and the structures, installation of water sealing devices and scaffoldings, and drainage of water therein are all carried out to create a dry working area.

Reaction by existing structures

Features

  • Environment-friendly without large scale of dredging.
  • Flexible to the existing girders arrangements and in construction equipment choice
  • Flexible to various structures and configurations
  • Economical due to possibility of multiple times of usage of the steel plates
