SLJ Slab for Piled Jetty

When a precast slab is applied to a piled jetty, such as piled jetty with jackets, lapped loop joints or short-lapped joints (SLJ) are applied between the precast slabs. The 'SLJ slab for a piled jetty' is a precast prestressed concrete (PC) or reinforced-concrete (RC) slab with end-band lapped joints to join the precast slabs. The SLJ slab improves workability and shortens construction time, especially when precast slab joints have two directions. The Coastal Development Institute of Technology verified the construction performance and mechanical behavior of the SLJ slab for a piled jetty as part of its ongoing technology development efforts related to private sector port areas.

Joint details

Features

  • The workability of joints is improved compared with the lapped loop joint, and the construction period is shortened.
  • The risk of damage to the rebar coating during construction is less compared with that of lapped loop joints.
  • An SLJ slab can be thinner than a slab with lapped loop joints.
  • The joint length in an SLJ slab can be shorter than the lapped joint length.
  • End-band lapped joints can be applied to the fixed end of a two-direction post-tensioned PC slab.
